Narrative blog task

Iron Man 2
This movie scene is from the movie "Iron man 2". I chose this movie scene as I thought that there are many narrative elements in the movie scene containing Barthes theory, Todorov's theory and Propp's theory.

Propps
Within the Iron Man 2 movie scene, there are many clear evidence of Propps character theory. Within the movie scene, we see a clear protagonist who is the Iron man named "Robert Downey Jr". This is evident as the protagonist "Iron Man" is shown to be extremely masculine and intelligent when it comes to fighting and killing the villains in the movie scene. During the fight, Iron Man looks to be very calm which is a very unsual behaviour when fighting. This just shows how confident Iron man is when fighting and it shows how he knows what to do with his extreme intelligence. Additionally, we see another "protagonist" like character helping out the hero. Through Propp's theory, he is known to be the helper meaning that he helps the hero restore the resolution by killing the villains in the movie scene and in the whole movie. Moreover, the helper who is called the "War machine", we also see him to be very masculine with his massive suit which helps us to understand and know how dangerous he is. Also with the fighting in the movie scene, we see him being calm like the Iron man immediately showing his confidence in victory against the robotic villains named "Hammer Drones". Additionally, there is certainly the villains in the movie scene which links to propp's theory that there are always villains in action movies such as this one.

Todorov
At first, the movie scene begins with an equilibrium and this supports Todorov's theory. An equilibrium is when everything is going as the way its expected to be It shows the protagonist "Iron Man" and the helper "War Machine" just casually having a normal civilized conversation. However, as the movie scene continued, we see that the equilibrium was taken over by a disequilibrium when the villains "Hammer Drones" eventually invaded the park and surrounded the two characters. A disequilibrium is when an equilibrium is disrupted by an unfortunate event which is conflict in the movie scene. As known, a disequilibrium is always expected to be included in a movie that is an action and a science fiction genre. Moreover, it is a perfect sense for an Iron Man movie as we know that in an Iron man movie, there is always going to be war between the good and the bad. Furthermore, a new equilibrium was restored when Iron Man decided to kill all of the Hammer drones in one laser shot. It just shows how dangerous he is. A new equilibrium is when the evil forces are defeated, the conflict is resolved and harmony exists once more and we see this exactly at the end of the scene. We know that this a new equilibrium as all of the villains are destroyed and everything is back to how it was before the villains invaded the park. It became catastrophic for the Hammer Drones.

Barthes
Within the movie scene, there was more than 1 enigma codes. The first enigma code is when they suddenly start speaking in a middle of an abandoned dark park almost indicating to the audience that some villain will eventually invade their space and will start an unfortunate conflict with the Iron Man and the War machine. Further explanation is that the audience would immediately find it weird and unusual on why they would talking in the middle of a park especially. Moreover, the conversation that they have is something about hiding and not staying in the middle of the park due to dangerous incoming which are the villains. Moreover, another enigma code is when Iron Man and War machine look away and we also hear the huge thump sound but the camera framing is on the two characters so we don't get to see what they were looking at for 2 or 3 seconds. This is an enigma code as it indicates to the audience that something or someone evil has just invaded due to the immediate facial expression of the two characters straight away when the thump sound was heard. With the enigma codes creating thoughts in the audience's heads, their questions are then finally answered when an action occurs. The action code is when we actually see the first hammer drone and then the other huge amount of Hammer drones dropping down afterwards. An action code is events or actions in the story that are important in developing the narrative.

 The Flash
This incredible scene is from the series of The Flash. This series genres are Action, superhero fiction and mystery.

Todorov
As I know, this whole The Flash series is an action genre which we would expect at least one of Todorov's theory element. Within the scene that i picked to analyse, the scene immediately begins with the Flash and the Rival fighting which is a certainly a disequilibrium. Disequilibrium is when the state of harmony is disrupted by a unfortunate event such as a conflict. Moreover, it makes a perfect sense for the scene to start off with a disequilibrium as the series is an action, superhero and mystery genre meaning that there is certainly going to be good vs bad narrative within the whole series. As the scene continued, we have a new equilibrium when the flash smashes down the villain onto the floor forcing him to surrender with his speech. A new equilibrium is when everything is back to how it was before. This is shown in the scene as the flash resolves every problems and resolves the conflict between him and the villain.

Propps
There were clear evident conventions of Propp's character theory. Within the scene, we see a protagonist who is trying to save the world and we have a villain who wants to kill everyone and them two are both fighting from the start of the video. The protagonist in the scene from the series is certainly the Flash "Barry Allen" who is wearing the red suit. We know that he is the protagonist as he fights off the villain in order to resolve issue around the world. He doesn't want anymore conflict or anyone else innocent dying. Moreover, we certainly do have the villain within the scene who is trying create conflict with the protagonist and everyone else. Additionally, we also have a helper for the protagonist where it is a women that helps him to not surrender but she motivates him into beating the villain with her speech. From her speech, the flash is then more motivated and goes to fight the villain in anger. In addition, we also have another helper at the end of scene where the helper actually kills the villain right before he could kill the protagonist which is the flash.

Barthes
For Barthes theory, it was quite complicated and difficult to find an enigma and an action code within the scene. But however, there was an enigma code when the woman that gives a motivational speech to flash; it indicates to the audience that something will happen as the video progresses but the audience don't know what that is going to build up to so it starts to build questions in their head on what the flash might do after the motivational speech. Moreover, we see an action code afterwards when Barry Allen the flash actually reacts to her motivational speech and he starts to build up his power that he later uses to destroy the villain.

Amazing Spider Man
I picked a fight scene from the movie "The Amazing spider man" as I thought there were couple of narrative elements that would link with the fight scene between Spiderman and The Lizard.

Todorov
The convention of Todorov's theory is that the movie scene starts off with a disequilibrium. A disequilibrium is when the state of harmony is disrupted by an unfortunate event such as a conflict. In this movie fight scene, we see that exactly as we see a evil creature almost making the whole school destructive and his will is to kill spiderman and everyone else. This makes good sense for a disequilibrium to start off in this movie scene as we know that the movie spiderman is a superhero and action genre movie which would mainly include disequilibrium throughout the whole movie. The disequilibrium is that the lizard villain comes from the underground only to try and kill people. Moreover, as the movie scene continued, we see a new equilibrium. Even though the video didn't include any equilibrium, the video ended with a new equilibrium where the villain was trapped by the webs of Spiderman making him not be able to escape and create anymore killings.

Propps
The conventions of Propps theory were enabled to link with the movie scene. Within the scene, we had a strong and intelligent character that was the protagonist who is the Spider Man. Spider Man was the protagonist as we can see his will to save others from the Lizard as he puts his life at risk to save the other people that were in the school. Moreover, he goes to fight the Lizard so that he could defeat it and resolve the conflict meaning that there won't be anymore issues with the world and that's what he really wants. He wants the world to be peaceful . not full of hatred and conflict. Moreover, as known, the villain is the Lizard who had the intentions to kill many within the movie scene. The way he behaved was extremely abnormal towards the humans and Spider Man. Additionally, there was also a helper at the end who helps Spider Man to win the fight when she hits him with the head forcing the villain to let go of Spider Man. The helper is actually Spider Man's girlfriend in the movie so it could also be stated that there was also a princess within the movie scene.

Barthes
There was a certain an enigma code at the beginning of the movie scene when the toilet started to shake. This immediately created thoughts within the audience on why the toilet is shaking and what will happen next. As the enigma code built up, seconds later, the enigma code was broken down by an action code which answered the audience's questions. The action code was that the Lizard became visible after he broke the toilet and jumped out of it immediately making him look threatening and terrifying.
