Through the Ill Manors movie trailer, I can assume that the typical viewer of this movie might be       working class people that are elderly teenagers at ages of 18 and above that live in council estate areas in the United Kingdom and are not well educated at school. Firstly, in the movie trailer, we immediately are introduced to the characters and their roles in the movie. With this, it helps the movie trailer to attract wider audience and to reach out to their audience because some of characters behavior and actions may be relatable to the consumers or the consumer's relatives. Secondly, in the movie trailer, there are many aspects and elements that helps the movie to reach out to the consumers. One in particular would be the various amounts of shots of the setting/location which the viewers can relate to because some might live in those areas. So it attracts more audience as it is relatable to them in terms of location and other elements. Also, with the unique selling point, the movie trailer seemed quite versatile with the narrative and the genre. With the genre, it was crime fiction and drama which is not a trypical combination in Britain which is the reason why it helps appeal to a wide audience. Also, the narrative of the film is reflecting the poor environment of the council estate areas and the poor state the people are in that live there. This helps reach out to those that can relate to these problems and also to many other class people like middle class to send them a message to what is happening in these areas. Furthermore, there are many scenes in the trailer that are added together to create a swift flow and the connections between each scenes to help the consumers understand better. Lastly, with the main stars, in the movie trailer, they are not shown as much in comparison to the villains of the movie which is quite unsual which could lead to misconceptions or misunderstandings from the consumers. But however, it could be the unique selling point to attract wider audience.

  1. How has the genre of the film been represented through characters, settings, lighting, colour, music/dialogue, camera shots/movements/angles and editing?
  2. The genre of Ill Manors is drama and crime fiction which plays well with the representation of characters, settings and etc. Also, we can see this through the graphic scenes in the trailer such as nudity, innappropriate language and violence. It has an urban theme which links with the other elements of the movie.
Firstly, with characters, they are very unknown British actors that suit the style of the movie so well. With having non-actors as characters in the movie, it definitely links with the genre and the narrative element of the Movie "Ill Manors". Having non-actors as actors for the movie is a definite synergy with the genre and narrative of Ill Manors because the non-actors are probably from that world where they experienced the same thing as the actors in the Ill Manors movie experienced. Also, the genre of the film has been represented through characters as with many drama productions, there tends to be unknown actors to make the story more realistic as the unknown actors tend to have more of a link with the genre and the narrative of the movie. Moreover, with crime fiction genre, we have characters that are characterised as evil as they are involved in a gang and drug possession which they do evil things to other people within the movie.
Moreover, with the settings within the movie, the genre and the settings have a very good link. it has a very good synergy with the narrative and the genre of element of the movie as well. This is because with the film's narrative, it looks at the lives of many characters that live in council estate areas in the Uk that are suffering. With the council estate areas shown in the movie, it is an urban location where this links with the genre and the narrative of the movie because it makes the movie more easier to understand where the characters are from and also, it reaches out to many consumers as the settings and the narrative have a link with the two. Moreover, in the council estate areas which are urban, crime fiction genre are represented through this as many crimes tend to happen in urban areas where they are not regularly looked after by the government and the police. Also, with drama movies, they tend to reflect on the narrative of real things through the use of narrative which the settings perfectly links with the drama genre as the settings represent the characters with where they are from and how they have a synergy with the narrative as well.
Furthermore, the genre of the film is also represented through the lighting element which is used well to give the consumers an idea of what the narrative of the film may be. many action drama films tend to have more litter natural lighting which in the movie trailer of Ill Manors, it shows many lit scenes where the lighting is used very well to give a clear understanding and clear visual to the audience of what is happening. Also, with this natural lighting used mainly, it makes the drama look more realistic and encourages the audience to feel that the problems showed in the trailer is a reflection of the society in the Council estate areas in the UK. Moreover, with crime fiction , we do see a huge amount of darkish lighting whenever the main violence was taking place which is a very typical lighting volume in terms of crime fiction movies. It makes the violent scenes more dramatic.
Additionally, moving onto the dialogue and the music within the movie trailer of Ill Manors, it was very effective in a way that brought in the audience to give them an insight on the narrative. Within the movie trailer, there is a short scene of where the narrator is rapping about the movie which brought in many consumers together to understand the movie better. It is more unique and better as the rap also had a synergy with the genre and the setting element of the movie. Also, the music towards the ending of the movie trailer became more louder and quick pace as the violence started to rise; this is used to make the montage more dramatic
Moreover, within the movie trailer of "Ill Manors", the camera movements seemed very quick which many trailers would have. Trailers are essentially a montage which shows some scenes from the narrative that may give the audience an insight of the narrative. Further on, with the establishing shot of the council estates and the well known part of London, this reinforces the idea of how not many council estate areas are shown in movies or movie trailers and perhaps, more well established locations are shown. Also, the shots of the location tell the audience what the movie might be about as the location in the movie trailer looks very urban and dangerous which could help them to think that the narrative could include violence.
Lastly, with the editing of the movie trailer of Ill Manors, it is a very quick paced editing. From the beginning, it is quite slower but however, as the music and the scenes become faster, the editing became faster. Moreover, this represents the crime fiction as the fast paced editing makes the movie look more dramatic with violence and crime. Also, the fast paced editing links with the drama genre as it shows the rise in problems in the movie.
